In the early 1990’s Frog Leg’s founder and President, Mark Chelgren,
befriended the members of a quadriplegic rugby team. Having come from a
technology progressive, crank head bicycle environment he began asking what
was really missing from the ultimate wheelchair ride. The answer was
undoubtedly that Wheelchair riders were tired of being jostled and bounced
around from pretty minor bumps. Everyday life is not smooth. It’s no one’s idea
of nirvana to deal with muscle spasms and lower back pain that comes from
the rough ride. Being pitch from your chair onto the pavement was also a major
complaint. The decision was made – focus on the front wheels.
We make shock absorbing caster forks and wheels. That’s what we do. We
are compulsive about every detail from our own hollow stem bolt designed to
be stronger and more lightweight than a standard steel bolt to our custom
poured, solid urethane tire treads. Any wonder our technology was the first and
still the best in the industry?
